Overview of class
State and local governments are responsible for delivering crucial services like education (elementary, secondary, and higher), public welfare (including Medicaid), healthcare, infrastructure (roads, bridges), criminal justice, and housing. The economics involved in the efficient delivery of these services and the political forces that sway economics are some of the topics we will cover in this course. State and local governments actively participate in economic development through various strategies, including attracting businesses, supporting workforce development, and investing in infrastructure. For this reason, we will study local taxes, TIF districts, and local spending priorities as well. Prerequisites: ECON 281-CN, ECON 310-A, ECON 310-B.
