Overview of class
The inspiration for utopia, Latin America has in turn produced a flowering of revolutionary discourses that offer solutions to the complex contradictions that define it. The goals of this course are: 1) to familiarize students with the history of this revolutionary literary and cultural production in Latin America and; 2) to explore the varying registers through and places in which these discourses have been enunciated, paying particular attention to the ways in which they characterize and position race, ethnicity, class, and global dynamics in their attempts to envision alternative presents and futures. Prerequisite: 1 course from SPANISH 250-0, 251-0, 260-0, or 261-0.

Learning Objectives
Students will be expected to have knowledge of literary and cultural practices that represent revolutionary discourses, movements and practices in Latin American literatures and cultures.
