Overview of class

Review of special relativity and Newtonian gravity; Least action principle and conservation laws; Geodesics and metric tensors; Einstein's equation from the Einstein-Hilbert action.

Registration Requirements

Special relativity and classical mechanics at the level of PHYS 411 or equivalent. Open to advanced undergraduates with strong physics preparation including Lagrangian mechanics and special relativity.

Teaching Method

Two 90-minute lectures per week.
