Overview of class

This seminar introduces students to social and historical constructionism as a mode of thinking, a critical epistemology, and a foundational approach within queer theory. Through ten thematic sessions, the course explores key debates around essentialism, performativity, discourse, and the genealogy of sexuality. Readings include foundational texts by Foucault, Butler, Halperin, Sedgwick, and others, with attention to intersections of gender, desire, and power across historical contexts, including Greco-Roman antiquity and contemporary feminist thought.
