Overview of class

This course is best suited for students who have completed Introduction to Painting or had the equivalent past coursework. This advanced painting course delves into various painting prompts and exercises that continue to develop the early painter. Students will work from a variety of course material such as the film still, still life, books and collage. Throughout the quarter, students will engage in classroom activities that promote experimentation and innovation. Prominent artists such as Luchita Hurtado, Beauford Delaney, Ellsworth Kelly, Carmen Herrera, Kerry James Marshall, and Etal Adnan will be explored as guides toward experimentation. This course strongly emphasizes self-driven study, encouraging students to push the boundaries of their creative expression.
