Overview of class

In this class, we focus on food and domestic life in the past. The main premise of the class is that the small and overlooked actions of everyday life are laden with agency, and often the primary sites where political, economic, and environmental change are negotiated. We will focus on the theoretical frames that anchor these investigations, including everyday life, practice theory, and feminism. We will also examine the materiality of food and everyday life, and how archaeologists study and interpret continuity and change in these domains.
