Overview of class

This class will explore the craft of playwriting with a focus on writing to the edges of your voice, surprising yourself and the audience, and writing from the heart. In this class, students will write, workshop, and revise a full-length play. We will read and discuss plays of all shapes and sizes and theatre theory that rebels against the status quo. Students will write a project proposal.

The course will be workshop-centered with a focus on developing collaborative skills and feedback vocabulary. There will be weekly assignments which include readings, presentations, short writing exercises, and select play screenings. By the end of the quarter, each student will have created a complete full-length play (60-120 pages).
