Overview of class

In this class, we will study the fundamentals of writing for animation. Through reading assignments, viewing coursework, and written exercises we will explore ways to write for animation suited to a variety of interests, tastes, and aesthetics. We will study examples of animated media of the past and present to inspire our own original creations.

Learning Objectives

Over the course of the quarter each student will be expected to draft a treatment, outline, and write an original script for animation, totaling 30 pages in length.

Teaching Method

There will be weekly assignments, which will include writing, reading, and viewing.

Class Materials (Required)

• Access to Netflix, Hulu, HBOMax, Amazon Prime, Apple+
• Additional readings and episodes available on reserve and online via CANVAS

Internet access, NU email account, word processing program

Enrollment Requirements: Undergraduate students must have completed RTVF 260-0 in order to register for this course (concurrent registration is not allowed).
