Overview of class
This hybrid studio-seminar course explores the life and work of Pina Bausch. Pina Bausch was a German dancer/choreographer who innovated European dance theatre with her aesthetic practices that included autobiographical storytelling, humor, ironic use of props and glamorous costumes. An icon, myth and brand of German expressionism, Bausch still inspires contemporary dance theatre globally. The class will combine scholarly readings and movement work based on Bausch's aesthetic and culminate in a performance devised by students based on the aesthetic of Pina Bausch and German dance theatre.
