Overview of class

Historically, feminist movements across the Americas/Abya Yala have been at the forefront of reimagining democracy in response to rising authoritarianism, inequality, and democratic disenchantment. This course examines how these movements use communication—from protests to digital media—to critique political institutions and articulate alternative democratic visions rooted in solidarity and care. Throughout the quarter, students will analyze case studies, strengthen their research and writing skills, and complete a 15-20 page paper on the democratic contributions of a feminist movement or protest of their choice.
