Overview of class
Through this course, students will learn the fundamentals of music, actively listen and engage with music, discuss and explore how music impacts society, and discover the history and interconnectedness of music.
Registration Requirements
This class is open to all undergraduate non-music major students. No prior musical training is required.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, students will have developed a basic understanding of musical elements, explored key moments in music history, practiced active listening, and composed a simple original piece.
Teaching Method
This course will include discussions on the readings as well as personal experiences with music. The students will get involved with creating music hands-on through the use of simple instruments. They will also be required to attend multiple live concerts and listen more critically to music.
Evaluation Method
Students will be evaluated on their active participation in class, effort and originality on assignments, and scores on assessments and the final project.
