Overview of class
This course offers an introduction to musical composition, focused on approaches to notation, electronic production, analysis, and listening. In class, students will engage in lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and discussion-oriented presentations of their individual work. Assignments will consist of readings, listening, and short composition exercises that will be presented in class. At the end of the quarter, all students will complete and present an original piece of music in any style. No prior experience in composition or music theory is required, although a basic ability to read music is recommended.
