Overview of class
Field Seminar in African History: Historiographic analysis of core literature in the field, mostly recent works with a smattering of classics. Mostly focused on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, but one or two titles may address earlier periods.
Learning Objectives
Students will learn how to extract the core and germane arguments from books and articles and to locate their significance within the broader field.
Evaluation Method
Book reviews, historiographic essays, and a draft undergraduate syllabus/lecture.
