Overview of class

Introduction to grammar and development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Brazilian Portuguese, as well as the history and culture of Portuguese-speaking countries. Prerequisite: PORT 101-1, instructor permission, or sufficient score on placement test.

Learning Objectives

Based on the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines 2024, at the end of Port 101-2 students should be able to:
• Acquire basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in the Portuguese language that will enable them to present personal information, about their life and daily activities in the simple present and past.
• Express personal preferences on familiar and everyday topics of interest, using simple constructions.
• Communicate with others from the target culture in familiar everyday situations, using memorized language
• Start developing cultural awareness and appropriate learned behaviors to integrate language and culture
• Make comparisons between products and practices related to familiar everyday life and personal interests or studies, to help them understand perspectives.
Build the necessary skills for transition to the high-basic level of Portuguese 115-1.
