Overview of class

This course examines highly influential prose texts from ancient Greece (e.g.,Thucydides, Plato, Aristotle). The approach is close reading and historical contextualization. The course does not provide an introduction to current trends in contemporary political theory. Seminars will be a no-tech zone. Our goal will be to understand such things as why, when asked by a Martin Luther King Jr. answered, "Plato's Republic."
