Overview of class
This course is a discussion-oriented, multi-media exploration of ways in which women have participated, and continue to participate, in British and especially American rock music and rock-music culture from the 1950s through today. Juniors, seniors, and graduate students from any major are welcome, but course content assumes previous acquaintance with gender theory, music history and theory, media studies, performance studies, or cultural studies.

short responses to reading/listening/viewing, short class presentations, participation in discussion, and a final project.
Class Materials (Required)
All assigned material will either be posted on Canvas, available on YouTube or streaming platforms, or on physical reserve in the library; students will have the option to purchase the books we read most often but that is not required.
