Overview of class

Earth's oceans and atmosphere are intimately connected and play a fundamental role in shaping weather, climate, and life on our planet. This course explores the physical, chemical, geological, and biological processes that govern the oceans and atmosphere, emphasizing their interactions within the Earth system and their influence on society. Topics include ocean circulation, atmospheric processes, climate variability and change, the water cycle, marine ecosystems, and human impacts on the environment. Short field activities along the Lake Michigan shoreline allow students to observe Earth system processes firsthand.

In-class activities, homework, quizzes, and other assignments.

Class Notes

This course includes short walking field trips to the campus lakefront during class time. Navigating a sandy beach will be necessary for class activities.
