Overview of class
This is an introductory course covering the theory and application of geographic information systems (GIS). The course includes an overview of general principles of GIS and provides practical experience in its use. Topics include components of GIS, the characteristics of spatial data, database models, remote sensing basics, vector operations, raster operations, and GIS applications. Weekly assignments focus on building skills in ArcGIS Pro. In addition, students take two tests and complete a final project using GIS to analyze authentic data and answer real-world questions.
