Overview of class

References to Karl Marx recur in debates ranging from politics to popular culture to economics to social theory. This course takes on what all the fuss is about. We explore Marx's basic writings and concepts as an introduction to his works. We also include attention to other notable figures and texts that influenced and were influenced by Karl Marx and his critics.

Learning Objectives

Recognize, analyze and compare key concepts and theoretical frameworks that have shaped scholarly treatments of course topics. Apply such frameworks in analyzing specific social phenomena related to course topics.

Enrollment Requirements

Enrollment Requirements: Pre-Registration -- Reserved for Anthropology majors and minors until the end of preregistration, after which time enrollment will be open to everyone.
