Overview of class

This practice-based course focuses on the fundamentals of embodiment, or how to feel, sense, and express ourselves through physical attention and action. By learning anatomical connections of the breath and musculoskeletal system, practicing detailed movement sequences, engaging in solo and group awareness exercises, we will explore how to enliven the body through performance.

From 1987-1997, Anne Bogart and Tina Landau worked together to develop and expand Mary Overlie's six Viewpoints into nine physical Viewpoints: Spatial Relationship, Kinesthetic Response, Shape, Gesture, Repetition, Architecture, Tempo, Duration and Topography. Through this course, we will explore and come to know each of the nine Viewpoints, using them to warm up, practice finding physical impulse individually and as an ensemble, and through the practice, become a tight knit, working ensemble.
