Overview of class

This course is the next level of Theatre Orchestration (Theatre 357). It focuses on the technical and creative skills involved in creating, adapting, reducing, and re-imagining large scale theatrical orchestrations, as well as the development of instrumental and vocal arrangements appropriate to a theatrical production. Contemporary theatrical arrangers/orchestrators and their work are studied and emulated through small orchestration/arranging design projects. There is an emphasis on professional engraving ("copy") techniques for Broadway musicals using Dorico (notation software).
