Overview of class
In this theory-practice course, students will engage critically with historical and theoretical models for dramaturgically grounded theatrical translation, dive into the practical implications of these theories, and generate their own translations of performance texts of their choice. The course's aims are to build critical context for translation in a live performance context and to give students the practical skills to begin developing a portfolio of work that allows them to expand beyond the Anglo-centric focus of much US theatre. Students must have a high intermediate knowledge of any non-English language. No previous translation experience is required.
