Overview of class

This MFA in Documentary Media core course allows students to explore a range of approaches to non-fiction filmmaking that will at minimum include observational, essay and hybrid film practices. In addition to assignments that offer hands-on experience in cinematography, sound recording, and editing, each student will create their own final project. Visits by guest filmmakers, film screenings, readings and discussions will all contribute to students' deeper understanding of the field of documentary and support their own growth as filmmakers.

Learning Objectives

Students will gain a greater understanding of the field of nonfiction filmmaking, while developing conceptual, technical and critique skills and honing their unique cinematic vision and voice.
