Overview of class

Neurobiological bases of Central Auditory Processing Disorders (CAPD), administration and interpretation of CAPD test measures, and remediation and management plans for patients diagnosed with CAPD.

Registration Requirements

Student has completed necessary pre-requisite course in CANS anatomy/physiology.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) list and define known central auditory processes
2) describe components of typical central auditory evaluation
3) compare and contrast common models of central auditory evaluation and treatment.
4) implement a screening program for central auditory dysfunction
5) administer and score typical central auditory function tests
6) interpret test results using a deficit-specific model
7) describe general principles of intervention for central auditory processing disorders (CAPDs)
8) make recommendations for effective deficit-specific management and treatment of CAPDs
9) report clearly evaluation findings and recommendations to client, parents and other professionals

Evaluation Method

REQUIRED: CAP eval observation (10 pts) TBA @ Dr. Baker's office - can be done M-W-F
Weekly Knowledge Check = 5 pts each (term total 50 pts)
QUIZ 1= 50 pts
CASES QUIZ = 75 pts (open book, open note)
CASE REPORT = 25 pts (open book, open notes)
