Overview of class

This course introduces Educational Studies and Learning Sciences students to the foundations of education research, with an emphasis on developing the skills and perspectives necessary to become thoughtful, ethical, and engaged researchers and consumers of research. Students will explore the history and purposes of education research, ethical considerations, and the influence of researcher positionality, while also gaining hands-on experience with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Through guided activities, close reading of journal articles, and reflective assignments, students will have the opportunity to develop research questions, conduct literature reviews, identify appropriate research designs, and communicate about research. A central focus of the course is preparing students to engage in their Master's Project (MP) in the Winter quarter.
