Learning Objectives
To recall the experience of being a beginner student, identify the essential concepts and techniques, and practice teaching the basics of musicianship and foundational instrumental technique.
Teaching Method
Each class is devoted to a particular topic pertinent to the beginner experience and observing experienced teachers. Work time is provided in class to develop teaching ideas and try them out approaches. Independent work includes light reading, teaching observations, and teaching three planned lessons to a beginner. In lieu of a final exam, students will present a final project.
Evaluation Method
Class attendance, participation, and assignment completion count toward final grade; final project is self-graded. Student effort, engagement, and participation are prioritized over teaching expertise.

Class Notes
Students are required to identify a "beginner student" to teach and are responsible for scheduling and completing three half-hour lessons. Suggestions and assistance will be provided as needed.
