Overview of class

This course is a study in the ethical questions regarding the ways we relate to and interact with our various environments. Addressing climate change and the unique ethical challenges it poses will be one portion of this study. This theme of climate justice will touch on individual and group responsibility, collective action problems, and how traditional ethical theories approach environmental concerns. The second theme of this course will concern the ways in which we conceive of and relate to the natural world. Topics for this section include ecological restoration, anthropocentrism, and ecofeminisms. The final theme of this course will touch on the ways in which we interact with our built environment: universal design and accessibility, gentrification, and the sociopolitical dynamics that influence embodied agency within urban life. No prior experience with ethical theory is expected or required.
