Overview of class

This multidisciplinary introduction to cultural anthropology explores cultural practices and their global impact, covering topics such as subsistence, exchange, social organization, kinship, politics, and globalization. Emphasizing complexity, ethics, and practical analysis, students will examine case studies and engage in critical thinking exercises to understand how cultural practices shape human experiences and global challenges. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to assess existing cultural practices, propose evidence-based solutions, and contribute to informed discussions on global cultural issues.

This course is conducted completely online. A technology fee will be added to tuition.

Foundational disciplines / distribution: social sciences. Meets requirement for course that applies perspectives on power, justice, and equity with a global focus.

Registration Requirements

Only SPS students, College Prep Program Students, and Visiting Students may register. Undergraduate students in other schools at Northwestern are not permitted to enroll in this course.
