Overview of class

This course is designed for Master of Arts in Sound Arts and Industries students anticipating further graduate studies upon completion of the SAI degree, and as a capstone to their work in the program. Toward that end, and working closely with a faculty advisor, thesis students will create a piece of scholarly research or other work f appropriate length, depth and sophistication for application dossiers, following a similar time commitment and footprint to a more traditional internship.

Learning Objectives

  1. To independently research and create work of a sufficiently professional caliber to qualify a student for work in Sound Studies at the PhD level or work in Sound Art at the MFA level.

  2. To allow students to explore and to express who they are as an artist-scholar, as a capstone to their experience and in a self-reflective manner.

  3. To push the boundaries of Sound Studies research and practice at the graduate level.
