Overview of class

The focus of this graduate seminar is on the mutual constitution of mind, culture and society. Through classic and current readings, we will examine how psychological experience comes to have structure and substance according to the meanings, practices, and institutions of the significant sociocultural contexts of people's lives, and how culturally grounded individuals in the course of their everyday lives construct and continually reconstruct the sociocultural contexts in which they live. We will give particular emphasis to culture cycles of region, race, social class and gender.
