Overview of class
This course will introduce students to methods used in psychological research. Research methods will be explored and reinforced through readings, lectures, quizzes, group discussions, and hands-on research projects. We will cover basic concepts such as experimental design, psychological measurements, sampling, and statistical techniques. Students will apply those skills throughout the quarter towards two guided projects and a final group project. In these projects, students will be asked to plan studies, collect and analyze data using tools such as R or Python (no prior coding experience needed), write up their research reports in APA style, and present their research findings to the class. By the end of the course, students will have the foundational skills to investigate psychological questions scientifically, communicate their research findings, and become informed consumers of science.
