Overview of class
This course will study the use of effective field theories (EFTs) in understanding high energy collider data. We will begin with an introduction to EFTs illustrated by several examples that have been historically useful in our understanding of the Standard Model, including the Fermi theory and heavy quark effective theory. We will then discuss the construction of the Standard Model Effective Theory and its connection to ultraviolet models. Technical issues such as the construction of the dimension-6 operator basis, the use of the equations of motion to simplify the operator basis, renormalization and operator mixing will be studied. The course material and coverage will to an extent follow the interests of the students enrolled.
Class Materials (Required)
