Overview of class
This is the third of the three-quarter sequence of the first graduate-level course on quantum mechanics. Topics include: perturbation theory for stationary states; time-dependent perturbations including open quantum systems and the golden rule, sudden and adiabatic approximations; good quantum numbers for atoms, LS and JJ coupling; light-matter interaction, selection rules, applications of stationary state perturbation theory; rudimentary scattering theory. Variational and WKB methods and relativistic quantum mechanics may be covered if there is time.
