Overview of class

Advanced Language in Context aims at deepening students' linguistic and cultural proficiency through the study of grammatical rules and patterns as they appear in authentic material. The course is structured around four key knowledge processes: experiencing, conceptualizing, analyzing and applying.

Students will engage with authentic texts, media and cultural products, examining form-meaning relationships while reflecting on past and contemporary issues in French society. Students will then apply their knowledge to produce language in creative and meaningful ways.

Registration Requirements

French 202 or consent of instructor.

Learning Objectives

Students will refine their interpersonal, presentational, and interpretative competence while developing their functional proficiency.

Students will review and expand their French grammar foundation through focused exercises.

Students will develop their speaking proficiency through in class discussions and presentations.

Students will improve their reading and writing skills through close reading activities.

Students will increase their intercultural competence by engaging with cultural products.

Enrollment Requirements

Enrollment Requirements: Reserved for French Majors & Minors. Prerequisite: Students must have completed FRENCH 202-0 or a test score of 5 in AP French. Other students may register with instructor permission.
