Overview of class

This course will focus on effective communication in French in a business context. Essential components of the course include acquiring knowledge of the economic sector, business structures and practices, professional communication skills, and cultural competency. Learners will acquire competence in their writing, reading, oral comprehension, and speaking skills dealing with business issues by way of task-specific communicative activities. They will, for example, write a CV and cover letter, conduct a job interview, and invent, and present their original product, or service, and company. Upon completion of the course, students will have created a personalized and comprehensive professional portfolio fitting for the job market.

Registration Requirements

French 202 or consent of instructor.

Learning Objectives

The course objectives include: to acquire communicative competence and ability to describe, interpret, and compare a variety of structures in the professional world; to foster intercultural awareness, and the ability to appreciate diverse perspectives; to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion in professional life; to acquire interpersonal, interpretive and presentational skills; to enhance career readiness and project-based learning; to interact successfully in an international and intercultural environment.

Teaching Method

Communicative method and student-centered learning; including: class discussions, interviews, films, readings, videos, role-plays, presentations. Classes will be conducted exclusively in French.

Evaluation Method

Students will be evaluated based on: Class preparation, attendance, and participation; Discussion activities; Dossiers; Quizzes; Term paper (4-5 pages); one Presentation; Final portfolio; interview

Enrollment Requirements

Enrollment Requirements: Reserved for French Majors & Minors. Prerequisite: Students must have completed FRENCH 202-0 or a test score of 5 in AP French. Other students may register with instructor permission.
