Overview of class
This course is designed to build fluency in written and oral expression in French. Classes will concentrate on improving comprehension through discussions, a novel, and films. Assessments will include short writing and speaking exercises, and compositions as well as the preparation of grammar exercises related to the course objectives. This course serves as prerequisite for most other 200 and 300-level French classes.
Registration Requirements
French 125-3, 201, 203, or placement by the department.
Learning Objectives
Students develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills at an advanced level of French in cultural contexts and foster their critical thinking skills. It is expected that by the end of the term, students will be able to produce a well-conceived paper on a personal, literary or cultural topic and be more at ease when expressing themselves in French.
Teaching Method
A collaborative workshop, with written and oral activities organized around communicative strategies. Classes will be conducted in French.
Evaluation Method
Students will be evaluated based on class participation, written and oral homework, short quizzes, and written and oral assessments.
