Overview of class
This is not a survey course of biblical literature, but a deep dive into selected texts from the Torah, the Writings, the Prophets, and the Gospels. Our focus is thematic: creation and chaos, good and evil, free will, concepts of nature and the human, community, responsibility, repentance, forgiveness, and biblical ideas of justice. We will also investigate how these biblical ideas inform a sample of later literature, with attention to The Tempest by Shakespeare.
No prior knowledge of the readings is required.
Evaluation Method
Participation and attendance are required. Questions will be submitted about the readings. Oral report, and two in-class essays.
