Overview of class

Building on the work from your 1st year of the acting sequence we explore tragedy, characters trapped by radically limited options and external situations, expressing the deepest of human emotions; and identifying strong arguments experienced by character and audience. Technical focus will be on extension, and on the heightened scale of internal feelings and external expression. Course work will incorporate research, analysis of text, improvisation, and scene study. Emphasis will be given to the following elements of drama: Ritual, Character, Story, Given Circumstances, Conflict/Persuasive Argument, Unities (Action, Place, & Time), Scale (Ideas, Stakes, and Urgency), Vulnerability, Relationship, Irony, Realization, Catharsis, and Community.
