Overview of class

This course will develop the student's ability to see and discuss light in the context of theatrical
design. Students will begin to understand the process of creating a theatrical lighting design, including text
analysis, visual research, process tools, and principles of composition. Students will begin to understand the
principles of light as an artistic medium and will begin to use them to convey an artistic point of view.
Students will begin to explore the application of these ideas in practice through story scenarios and music.
Attention will be given to conveying and discussing visual ideas and point of view within a collaborative
process.

Enrollment Requirements: Pre-Reg: This class is open to Theatre Majors and Minors only until the end of pre-registration, after which time enrollment will be open to everyone who has taken the prerequisites. Prerequisites: RTVF 190 and either Theatre 171 or Theatre 273-1.
