Overview of class
In this course, we will practice the fundamentals of embodiment, or how to feel, sense and express through physical attention and action. By learning anatomical connections of the breath and musculoskeletal system, practicing detailed movement sequences, engaging in solo, duet, and group awareness exercises, playing physical theatre games, and exploring instant composition through movement, we will explore how to enliven the body through performance. This course culminates in a final in-class performance using movement skills built over the course of the quarter. This course is recommended for actors, opera singers, directors, dancers, and public speakers who are eager to dive deeply into essential elements of embodied expression and communication with consistency and rigor.
This quarter, we will focus on Anne Bogart's Viewpoints, using the technique to build ensemble awareness and deepen solo/partner work.
