Overview of class
This is a class for advanced improvisers. The goal of this class is to take already learned improvisational skills and apply them to movie structures. Students will take an experiential deep dive into story structure, ensemble and the rules of genres by improvising and discussing genre movies together. There will be a final performance in front of an audience. The midterm is the creation and filming of an episodic long form movie based on Richard Linklatter's "Slacker." Written work is pitching genre movies, reflections and genre dissections, as well as a a first draft treatment for an improvised movie.
Learning Objectives
Students will develop a deeper understanding of story structure, dialogue, character, voice and ensemble through the joy and craft of improvisation.
