Overview of class

THIS IS NOT FINISHING FOR THE ADVANCED DIRECTING SEQUENCE. It is a course for focused attention on post production for curricular, extracurricular, and independent projects that have already been shot, ideally encompassing editing, sound, and color correction. All projects must at minimum reach picture lock. While most ideal for juniors and seniors, sophomores will also be admitted as space allows. RTVF 372 - Editing is not a prerequisite, but is highly encouraged, as students in this class must already be conversant with Adobe Premiere. The course will not include basic technical training in use of the software or nonlinear editing.

Registration Requirements

Students must have a project that has already been shot (whether through a class, an extracurricular group, or independently) and has begun post-production editing, so that by the end of the course, each project will reach picture lock, sound mix, and dolor correction.

Learning Objectives

This class covers the process of post-production through completing a piece for public screening and delivery for distribution. Articulating your visual and dramaturgical conceptions for your project through presentations of cuts and in-class critiques will serve as preparation for professional communication not just in filmmaking. We will address technical standards for final deliverables necessary for theatrical and broadcast exhibition. Final presentation of projects to the instructor will follow basic technical specifications necessary for others to show your work.

Class Materials (Required)

Readings, viewings, and audio media will be provided for free via Canvas and Library Course Reserves.
