Overview of class

In this class, we will read, analyze, and write new plays that utilize specific shapes in order to heighten narrative content. Dramatic structural shapes that we will explore are circles, landscape, nesting dolls, and others.  Students will write a play that fragments, splinters, or explodes traditional narrative structure. Students' plays will be workshopped in class.

Learning Objectives

We will read and analyze plays that effectively merge form and content. We will expand our vocabulary and understanding around form by reading and discussing essays. We will do in-class writing exercises and workshop student plays. Students will write an original one act play and practice peer feedback that analyzes the way in which the union of form and content are operating.
