Overview of class
While the study of cultural production often focuses on the products and processes of large transnational corporate media, the full horizon for media production more often relies on small grassroots, DIY, and independent creators and organizations. These small producers and organizations provide essential roles as innovation labs, talent development, and feeder pipelines to larger companies. This class will focus on several organizational business models within media, along with a survey of some of the management and production techniques that make these businesses successful.
Note: The 8th class session will be held on Saturday May 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM-3:00 PM. The class session will be a trip to the EXP Rosemont. More details will be provided during class.
