Overview of class
AI is an increasingly important currency for those interested in analytics and the fundamentals of data science. Building on accessible real-world examples and hands-on exercises that develop AI and data literacy, this course introduces core concepts and methods drawn from recent interdisciplinary research in artificial intelligence, network science, social media analytics, and machine learning. Students will learn how AI-driven models leverage collective intelligence, human behavior, and predictive algorithms to forecast outcomes in markets for cultural goods such as music, film, computer games, and online content. The course also examines why prediction is difficult in human-AI environments due to social influence, digital platforms, and algorithmic processes. Finally, students will explore how human-in-the-loop workflows can address these challenges and develop effective oversight and decision-making skills when using advanced technologies.
