Overview of class
Contemporary Dance in Practice is designed for intermediate level students, who have some experience with modern/contemporary dance forms. This class offers a music-driven contemporary practice grounded in release-based modern dance technique, incorporating floorwork, improvisation, and group awareness. Class includes a sensation-based warm-up, set choreography built through short exercises and accumulative, traveling phrase work, and ensemble-based exploration through collective directives. The intentionally communal structure encourages rigor and curiosity, empowering students to propel their bodies through space and on the ground with clarity and confidence in collaboration with others.
