Overview of class
Occurring simultaneously with a first-year research award, this weekly seminar provides a structured approach to understanding the processes of academic research investigations. This course supplements the topic-specific experiential learning occurring with a faculty research mentor. Through short readings, discussions, class speakers, and preparation of research presentation materials, students learn how to approach the problem of a research question, the ways investigative techniques contribute to knowledge production and new understandings, and how to communicate findings. Each session offers strategies for improving the research experience, understanding research thinking, and addressing issues that can arise in the lab or with a research project. Intended to be repeated in sequence Winter and Spring quarters.
Registration Requirements
Students must have been accepted into the EREA program to enroll.
