Overview of class

What happens to those left behind after the death of a loved one? Health disparities shape who is more likely to experience premature death and loss. These losses can set off cascading consequences in the lives of the bereaved that (re)produce inequality. This course investigates how experiencing the death of a loved one can disrupt life trajectories and shape educational experiences, socioeconomic attainment, and health outcomes. We will explore how loss reverberates through families and across generations and how our social policies can be reimagined in response.
