Overview of class

Vintage and modern copies of many
legendary synthesizers are again exciting
musicians across stylistic borders. The
course explores their history, use, and covers
concepts such as voltage control, oscillators,
filters, envelopes, and step-sequencers. We
will begin at the basics and build to advance
audio concepts. We will study relevant
aspects of acoustic and electronic theory as
well as compositions of synthesized music
written since 1980.

Students will compose on hardware modular
synthesizers, as well as use free virtual
modular synth software.

Registration Requirements

Class time will be split between lectures, practical hands-on learning, demonstrations, and performances.

Laptop, wired headphones or earbuds, (does not need to be fancy or expensive, just no bluetooth).
