Overview of class

The central purpose of this course is to challenge students to consider how effectively they practice,

and how research can be applied to improve their practicing. The course will include a survey of

scholarship related to effective practice, as well as a variety of topics relevant to understanding

human learning. Students will work to integrate music research into their understanding and

application of each topic.

Learning Objectives

1. Discuss and reflect on the applications of research to their own practice.

2. Compare, contrast, and apply evidence-supported practice strategies.

3. Describe their tendencies as a self-regulated learner and create a plan for improving their

musical learning.

4. Find, summarize, synthesize, and critically review music education research.
